ARE YOU A CANADIAN SNOWBIRD?

TRAVEL & MEDICATION FAQs

1. Can Hauser’s help me get enough medication for my whole trip?

Yes! Our pharmacists work directly with your doctor and insurance provider to coordinate “vacation supplies” or early refills. Most plans cover 3 months at a time, but we can often help arrange longer supplies or explain your options if you’re travelling 4–6 months. It’s best to talk to us at least a month before you leave.

2. Can I travel with my prescriptions to another country?

Absolutely. Hauser’s can provide you with an up-to-date medication list and, if needed, a doctor’s note for border officials. Always keep medications in their original labelled containers — and we’ll make sure you leave with everything packaged correctly for travel.

3. Should I pack my medications in carry-on or checked luggage?

Always carry your medications in your carry-on. At Hauser’s, we can package them in travel-friendly blister packs or organizers that are secure and easy to manage in airports – simply speak to one of our pharmacists.

4. What if I run out of medication while I’m away?

This is one of the biggest travel worries. That’s why we work hard to ensure you don’t run out in the first place. If something unexpected happens, Hauser’s can help by faxing prescriptions abroad (where permitted) or advising on next steps through your travel insurance provider.

5. How do I store my medications in hot or humid climates?

Heat and humidity can damage medications. Our pharmacists can recommend insulated travel pouches and give you tips on safe storage — so your medications stay effective while you enjoy the sunshine.

6. Does travel insurance cover prescriptions?

Most plans cover emergencies only, not routine refills. That’s why Hauser’s always recommends bringing a full supply. We’ll walk you through your insurance plan details and help you understand what’s covered before you go.

7. Do I need to tell Hauser’s about my travel plans?

Yes, please! Let us know at least 4–6 weeks before you leave. That gives us time to prepare your blister packs, print your medication lists, and coordinate with your doctor and insurer. We’ll make sure you travel stress-free.

8. What if I’m travelling for more than 6 months?

Extended travel can affect both your medication supply and your OHIP coverage. Hauser’s pharmacists can explain your options, help with long-term supplies, and guide you on what to ask your insurer.

9. Will my medications be a problem at U.S. or international borders?

Most prescriptions are fine if packaged properly. Controlled medications (like pain or anxiety medications) may have limits. We’ll help you prepare the right documents and give you destination-specific tips so you avoid surprises at customs.

10. How can Hauser’s make my travel prep easier?

That’s what we’re here for! Our pharmacists can:

  • Arrange early refills and vacation supplies

  • Package your meds into organized blister packs for easy use abroad

  • Provide travel-friendly storage advice

  • Print medication lists and notes for border crossing

  • Review your travel insurance coverage with you
